Removing a fume cupboard is not a strip-out job
A cupboard that has been in service for twenty years holds a history of whatever was worked in it. The liner, the extract duct and the filters all carry residue, and a general contractor with a skip is not the right answer.
We decontaminate before anything is disconnected, isolate services properly, and take the unit out in a controlled sequence. The building is left ready for whatever comes next, whether that is a replacement unit or a repurposed room.
If the unit is being replaced rather than retired, we can handle the testing of the new one on the same programme.
Sustainable disposal
Reuse before landfill, where the unit allows it
Not every redundant cupboard is scrap. A unit taken out because a department moved, or because a refurbishment changed the layout, is often mechanically sound.
Where that is the case we reclaim the unit and its components. Our sister company Holliday Fielding Hocking refurbishes and resells fume cupboards, which is how we can offer a refurbished replacement at significantly less than new.
Where a unit genuinely is at end of life, it is broken down and the materials separated for recycling rather than sent whole to landfill.

A single unit is usually a one-day job. Whole-lab clearances are programmed around your access, and most education work happens in half terms or summer shutdown. We sheet and protect routes through occupied buildings.
It can, if they share an extract manifold or fan. Removing a unit changes the system resistance and can push the remaining cupboards out of specification. We recheck and rebalance the remaining units as part of the work.
Often, yes. A sound unit can be decontaminated, moved and recommissioned in its new position. Whether that is worthwhile depends on the age of the unit and the extract arrangement at the destination, which the survey will establish.
