Core services
From routine fume cupboard testing and maintenance to complex repairs and brand-new installations, HTS is your one-stop shop for fume cupboard servicing.
Face velocity readings, containment checks and smoke visualisation, documented against BS EN 14175 with a full compliance certificate.
Sash mechanisms, airflow monitors, fans and controls, plus HEPA and carbon filter changes on ductless recirculating units.
Fixed-schedule PPM contracts with calibration, remedial quoting and reminders, so annual testing never slips past its due date.
Thorough examination and testing of local exhaust ventilation to HSG258, covering ductwork, capture hoods and discharge points.
Audit-ready laboratories
Whether you manage a major laboratory or a single school workshop, we test to the same standard. Every visit produces a written report you can put straight in front of an inspector, listing each unit, its readings, its pass or fail status and any remedial work required.
Fume cupboard servicing is our core business, not a sideline. It accounts for over 80% of our work, and that concentration is why our engineers arrive knowing your make and model already. We work around teaching timetables, shutdown weeks and clinical schedules to keep disruption to a minimum.
We are independent, so the advice you get is about keeping your people safe and your records straight, not about selling you a new cupboard.
Standards we test to
BS EN 14175
Face velocity, air flow visualisation and containment, tested in situ as Part 4 requires.
COSHH Reg 9
Statutory examination at intervals no longer than 14 months, with records kept for five years.
HSG258
HSE guidance for LEV design, commissioning and thorough examination of extract systems.
CLEAPSS
Testing and record-keeping aligned to CLEAPSS advice for education science facilities.
Common questions
If your question is not here, call the office and speak to an engineer rather than a call handler.
COSHH Regulation 9 requires a thorough examination and test at intervals of no more than 14 months. Most laboratories work to a 12-month cycle so the certificate never lapses, and because an annual date is easier to plan around than a rolling 14-month one.
Yes. Ducted units are assessed on face velocity, containment and extract performance. Ductless recirculating units add filter condition and breakthrough to that list, since the air returns to the room. We record filter type, install date and remaining service life at every visit.
It depends entirely on what you use the cupboard for and how heavily. Light teaching use may give several years; sustained solvent work can exhaust a carbon filter far sooner. We advise on a replacement interval based on your usage rather than a generic figure.
Call 0113 245 4111 and we will talk through the fault immediately. Where a unit has to be taken out of service, we prioritise the visit and carry common spares so that many faults are cleared on the first attendance.
We work on any make or model of fume cupboard, including UK, US and European manufacturers, and we supply the matching spares, filters and airflow monitors.
